What is the Purpose of Dyno Tuning?

The overall goal of dyno tuning is to understand the performance output of an engine. Using the accurate snapshot of an engine's horsepower, torque, and air-fuel mixture provided by the dyno, we can then further tune and enhance the engine to maximize its real-world power. It is important to perform dyno tuning after any upgrade to maximize the safety and potential of the added components. Ultimately, dyno testing will ensure the air/fuel mixture is correct, allow for any necessary code disabling and make sure that added parts will not cause other problems once on the street or the track.

MAF Tuning

At our OKC dyno tuning facility we can perform Mass Air Flow tuning, also known as MAF tuning. This entails adjusting the values of the lower VE and mass air flow tables. The MAF is a sensor located in front of the throttle body that measures the amount of air being fed into the engine. The vehicle's computer references values in both tables and adjusts the air/fuel ratio accordingly.

Speed Density Tuning

Speed Density tuning is a form of dyno tuning best suited for forced induction or radical NA cars seeking maximum horsepower. Speed density tuning adjusts the lower and upper VE tables while eliminating the MAF table completely. This eliminates any issues that the MAF might encounter under high air intakes created by a radical NA or boosted applications. XP Racing is one of the few performance shops in the nation that offers Speed Density Tuning.
